Checklist with Questions for Parents of 1st Grade Students
Points of attention when using the checklist
The checklist should be completed by educational staff during a conversation with parents or directly by parents of a 1st-grade child if the school suspects the child may be gifted.
The purpose of the checklist is to support a comprehensive assessment of whether a child shows signs of giftedness. A higher number of “yes” responses indicates an increased likelihood that the child exhibits signs of giftedness. Additionally, it is important to consider other information about the child, including perspectives from both the child and the parents.
It is important to note that while the characteristics listed in the checklist can be observed in all children, they are often more pronounced and distinctly expressed in gifted children.
If the checklist is used during a conversation with parents, staff may begin with open-ended questions about the child. For example: Would you like to start by telling me a little about your child? How do you feel your child is thriving?
